Overview

The Kailash Mansarovar Tour via Lhasa is an extraordinary spiritual journey that takes you through the sacred landscapes of Tibet, offering an unparalleled opportunity to visit the Holy Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar—two of the most revered pilgrimage sites in the world. The tour is carefully designed to provide an enriching experience for spiritual seekers, adventure enthusiasts, and nature lovers alike. Mount Kailash is considered the center of the universe in several religions, including Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Bon. It is believed to be the abode of Lord Shiva, one of the principal deities in Hinduism, and a site of profound spiritual significance. Pilgrims from around the world come to perform the Parikarma (circumambulation) of the mountain to seek blessings and purification. Lake Mansarovar, located at the foot of Mount Kailash, is equally sacred and is believed to cleanse one’s soul. Pilgrims take a holy dip in the lake, which is thought to wash away sins and bring peace to the mind and spirit.

The journey begins in Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal, where participants will prepare for the trip and gather the necessary permits. The first leg of the journey involves a flight to Lhasa, the capital of Tibet, offering an opportunity to experience the unique Tibetan culture and spirituality. Lhasa itself is an enchanting city, known for its magnificent monasteries, ancient palaces, and breathtaking views of the Himalayas. Pilgrims will have the chance to explore Jokhang Temple, the holiest shrine in Tibetan Buddhism, and Potala Palace, the former winter residence of the Dalai Lama.

Acclimatization in Lhasa is crucial, as it lies at an altitude of 3,650 meters (12,000 feet). The city’s Tibetan culture and peaceful ambiance will provide an ideal setting for rest before embarking on the physically demanding part of the journey. During your stay in Lhasa, you will also visit important spiritual landmarks such as Norbulingka Palace, Sera Monastery, and Drepung Monastery, each steeped in religious history and significance.

After your stay in Lhasa, the journey continues with a scenic drive across the Tibetan plateau, traversing remote and picturesque landscapes, including vast grasslands, high mountain passes, and deep valleys. This part of the journey is both visually stunning and spiritually uplifting. Along the way, you’ll visit places such as Gyantse, known for its historical monasteries, and Shigatse, Tibet’s second-largest city, where the famous Tashilhunpo Monastery is located. These sites provide deeper insight into Tibetan Buddhist culture and history.

The highlight of the trip is the drive to Lake Mansarovar and the sacred Mount Kailash. The drive to Lake Mansarovar offers a stunning view of the snow-capped peaks of the Himalayas, and the lake’s tranquil waters provide an awe-inspiring backdrop for contemplation and spiritual reflection. After reaching Lake Mansarovar, pilgrims are encouraged to take a holy dip in the lake to purify the soul and cleanse sins.

Following this, the Kailash Parikarma (circumambulation) begins from Darchen, the base camp of Mount Kailash. The Parikarma is a challenging yet profoundly rewarding journey, often referred to as the most difficult pilgrimage in the world. The trek takes you around Mount Kailash, covering approximately 52 kilometers, passing through rugged terrains and high-altitude paths, culminating at the Dolma La Pass, which stands at an elevation of 5,636 meters (18,493 feet). It is a physically demanding journey that requires proper preparation and acclimatization, but the spiritual rewards of completing the Parikarma are immense.

Along the journey, travelers will be accompanied by experienced guides and Tibetan Sherpas, ensuring safety, comfort, and guidance. The tour is fully supported by logistics, including luxurious coach transportation, Yak services to carry luggage, and first aid provisions. The presence of a Nepalese-English-speaking guide and Chinese-speaking guides ensures a smooth communication flow and a deeper understanding of the region’s cultural and spiritual significance. The Kailash Mansarovar Tour is not only a pilgrimage but also an opportunity for cultural immersion. Tibet’s unique landscape, vibrant monasteries, and peaceful lifestyle offer travelers a rare glimpse into the heart of Tibetan Buddhism. The peaceful surroundings of Lake Mansarovar and the awe-inspiring beauty of Mount Kailash evoke a sense of wonder and reverence that will stay with you forever.

Accommodation during the tour includes 5-star hotels in Kathmandu, and standard guesthouses in Tibet, offering comfortable lodging. Meals are typically vegetarian and are provided at every stage of the trip. During the Kailash Parikarma, packed lunches are provided, ensuring that pilgrims are adequately nourished during the trek. The tour is designed for spiritual seekers, nature lovers, and adventure enthusiasts. While it is physically demanding, it is accessible to those in good health. It is recommended that travelers undertake light training or preparation for the trek, particularly for high-altitude walking.
